Orthodox Medicine and CREATE

CREATE is compatible with orthodox medicine – there are no known contra-indications with medical drugs or surgery.  In fact there is evidence that CREATE has positive benefits if a patient is using orthodox medical interventions.  For example, side effects of chemotherapy can be reduced or eliminated with CREATE therapies. (A research study confirming this is described below.)

So CREATE works to support your personal medical doctors and consultants, and is not separate from them.  This means that CREATE does not offer medical support – your personal doctor remains in charge of your case.

This also means that if you cannot find two weeks free of visits to or from your doctor, you may be unable to travel to the CREATE’s ‘Heaven-by-the-Sea’ clinic for the 2-week Program.  Instead, a CREATE therapist may travel to you and provide the Program at your home or hospital.

It has been shown in research that it seems better to try additional therapies to just your doctor’s medical options.  A study “Impacting Quality of Life for Patients with Advanced Cancer with a Structured Multidisciplinary Intervention: A Randomized Controlled Trial”, Rummans et al concluded that participants who received a multi-disciplinary approach maintained and actually improved their quality of life during radiation therapy

(Other patients who did not receive the multi-disciplinary approach experienced a significant decrease in their quality of life.)

Similarly, Julie Hearn and Irene Higginson of the Department of Palliative Care and Policy, King’s College School of Medicine and Dentistry and St Christopher’s Hospice, London, found during a systematic literature review that specialist palliative care teams improve outcomes for cancer patients.
When compared to only having  conventional medical care, there is evidence that specialist teams in palliative care improve satisfaction and identify and deal with more patient and family needs.
Moreover, multi-professional approaches to palliative care reduce the amount of time patients spend in acute hospital settings. (Palliative Medicine, Vol. 12, No. 5, 317-332 (1998) DOI: 10.1191/026921698676226729)
